I am a new visitor this site - I have a child with SWS who other than two seizures seemed to be doing well and developmentally was seemingly fine. He is now in school full day and is now displaying some behavior issues that I am not sure are related to SWS. Academically he is holding his own but I am concerned about behavior. Does anyone know of an evaluator in the NJ/NY area that you could refer me to? Thanks
Hi - Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

How old is your son, and what grade is he in?

My grandson has a learning disability and some behavior problems, and it is not uncommon in children with SWS. Some have symptoms very similar to ADD/ADHD. Perhaps you should discuss with his teachers the possibility of establishing an IEP. Each state is required to provide this for its students. The school will administer the appropriate tests to help determine a plan to help with behavior and/or difficulty learning. My grandson is considered "other health impared" due to SWS. Perhaps your doctor could also write to the school and help get the process started. If you need more information, please contact me at swsc@swscommunity.org

Sorry - I hit send too fast!

If you don't mind my asking, what type of behavior issues is he having? When did these symptoms begin? Is he on any medication, and who is his neurologist? It might be a good idea to contact his neurologist and make them aware of any changes in behavior. Once they establish a cause, your doctor could probably refer you to a specialist if needed

Please let me know what you find out.
